Much has been written concerning the Mayan Calender and 2012. Does it somehow tie into the Biblical End Times? Is this the Great Tribulation referred to in Revelations? While it is written "Nobody knows the day or hour" : we can use the Bible to enlighten us as to possibly when these things will occur. The date of December 21st 2012 on the Mayan calender is the end of an age. It does not mean the end of the world. Sensationalism sells newspapers & the internet is no different. Repeated news reports on this subject will continue right up until December 21st 2012.
Does the Bible offer any light on this?
Have the Biblical signs of the End Times been Fulfilled?
A study of the book of Revelations along with signs that the Messiah gave will answer this question. Before the end comes there is a seven year Tribulation. If 2012 is the end, this Tribulation had to have started in 2005. To be accurate, on December 21st 2005.
Matthew chapter 24 is a great place to start looking for evidence. Starting in verse 4, Jesus answers the question posed to him by the disciples. "What shall be the sign of your coming and of the end of this world"? Verses 4 through 14 tell of many things to come, But verse 15 is very alarming. It speaks of the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place. This refers to the Book of Daniel chapters 9 through 12. It speaks of a time when the burnt offering is taken away, the sanctuary is profaned , and the abomination that makes desolate set up. After which there will be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. Luke explains in chapter 21 vs 20 & 21 that this abomination is when Jerusalem is surrounded by armies, you know it's desolation is near. This already occurred in 70 AD, when Caesar surrounded & conqured the Holy City. The 1290 days are about 3 1/2 years. This takes us to approximately June 73 AD. But if that was the end, why are we here now? Was this the wrong abomination of desolation? Can it happen again? Until 1947 many thought it could never happen again. In 1948 the State of Israel arose again. Could the Mayan's be correct, that the end of an age is coming soon? All signs given must occur before the End Times are here. Your thoughts are welcome.

You have pointed out exactly when the tribulations began that Jesus was speaking of. When Jerusalem is surrounded.
I differ in opinion concerning the SEVEN years of tribulation though. I am thinking that you are referring to Daniel 9:27.
I'll only make two comments. There is no reason to believe that the Prince mentioned in verse 25 is not the same prince mentioned in verse 27.
V.24 speaks of 70 weeks given to the children of Daniels people.
v26 speaks of 62 weeks passing and then they will kill the Messiah.
v25 speaks of 69 weeks unto (messiah) the prince; and at that time he Confirms "THE" covenant with many for one week because there is but one week left of the seventy weeks given to the children of Daniels people.
I wonder what happened in political history around the year 100.
One more point/question.
This prince mentioned in V. 27: because of the the overspreading of abominations he makes it desolate.
It sounds as if this prince is punishing the people for bad behavior; I don't think the prince of darkness would punish the peopke for bad behavior, But, Messiah the Prince might, he might CONFIRM the covenant with his followers just before he begins punishing those who were spreading abominations.
This verse does not say that a "new covenant" or treaty will be entered into by the Prince of Darkness and will be broken in the middle of the week. Doesn't say that.
3rd point. This week mentioned here would have to be measured in an equitable manner as the 62 weeks which is to pass until the Messiah is killed. 62 weeks = 568 of our years
1 week = 9.16 years
62nd week ends ... 30 AD
69th week would end around 96 AD covenant is confirmed at this time (with many but not all)
70th week ends about 104 AD
forty years later there is no longer a Hebrew Nation
every single Hebrew was removed from their land.
Story over. except for Daniel 12: the power of the Holy people will be scattered for a time, times and an half.
this is then restated as the sacrifice being taken away for 1290 days.

Time will tell and I hope every town has an underground hideaway for everyone to take cover. I know my city does. It was built for shelter from WW2 and it still exists. It will be over fast with todays technology that is for sure.

This is a very interesting Hub. In my opinion The Revelation was completely fulfilled by AD 70, it was at that time the Old Covenant ended and the New was fully established.

I personally believe,that there are certain things that are not to be known by man, there are mysteries that man will never be able to decipher because the knowledge is not of the intellect but of the spirit.And when man tries to interpret these mysteries, fiascos like last years Harold Camping's Rapture happen.
