Think small for Large Mouth Bass
61
Most fisherman are under the misconception that large Bass only eat large baits. I have experimented for the past 5 years on Largemouth Bass. The overwhelming evidence points to smaller baits catching more & bigger fish. Both ponds & lakes gave the same result. Using a rubber worm, the fish prefered a 4" worm to a 6" or 7 " worm of the same color. Speed and depth at which the baits are fished have a much greater effect on the fish than size. The same results were obtained using rubber frogs and stick baits. The 4" length seems to be the threshold. As soon as a larger bait was used, the bite usually dropped off. Baits under 3" had the same effect, as pan fish were then being caught. The next time you're reloading the tacklebox with your favorite bass baits, try thinking smaller to add to your fishing success.
Color also effects the "bite". Darker colors work better on bright sunny days, while brighter colors seem to attract fish on cloudy or rainy days. Experimenting with colors will lead you to what's best in your area.

One of the high points of my fishing experience was at age 12 catching a 4 pound bass on False River near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As I recall I was trolling with some kind of a spoon. The fish jumped clear out of the water several times and I recall my Dad reminding me quite a few times to keep my rod tip up.

I have also found this out while bass fishing. Thanks for sharing!
